Urban Wyrm, the UK & Ireland's Worm Cast experts, and the only worm cast growing medium company of its kind, has picked up its second sustainable product award in the space of a few weeks.
The company, which is partnered with market-leading compost supplier Growmoor Better Growing, picked up the Best New Sustainable Product award at the South West Growers Show on 2nd October 2024.
“It’s been crazy…That’s two product of the year awards in the space of a few weeks!” said Ashley Day, director and co-founder of Urban Wyrm.
“We really have worked so incredibly hard on Urban Wyrm alongside our compost expert partners Growmoor Bettergrowing to bring this wonderful brand to life. To see it evolve so quickly is giving us a feeling of great achievement.”
The company’s worm-cast-enriched compost developed in partnership with Growmoor, Black Gold Organic, also won Sustainable Product of the Year at the Glee New Product Awards on 10th September.
Available in a peat-free version, Black Gold Organic is one of the few organic composts that is no-feed, helping growers reduce the amount of products they use. Its enhanced formula helps to retain nutrients and water, resulting in stronger root and plant growth - up to 8 times bigger yields.
Urban Wyrm’s pure worm cast pouches offer nutrient-rich feed and soil conditioner to all plants, both indoor and outdoor. Produced through the natural digestive processes of worms, worm casts (essentially worm poop) are one of the most versatile and valuable organic soil improvers available today.
Urban Wyrm continues to go from strength to strength as experts in the horticulture industry discover how its products can disrupt the market. In a rare move, no-dig gardening legend Charles Dowding has become an affiliate partner of Urban Wyrm, after being impressed with the superior growth he got from his lettuces at the beginning of summer.
The South West Growers Show was held on 2nd October 2024 at The Matford Centre, Exeter. Its New Product Awards ceremony was presented by guest judge Alan Down, former HTA President. The Best New Sustainable Product award was a new initiative for 2024, allowing products either made from or incorporating sustainable materials or manufacturing processes to enter.
