How to make Worm Tea with Urban Wyrm’s Worm Casts
Worm tea is a nutrient-rich liquid fertiliser which can nourish your plants whilst promoting soil health. Made from worm casts (worm poop), this natural elixir is full of beneficial microbes, nutrients, and enzymes that plants love. Urban Wyrm’s high-quality worm casts make the process simple and effective. Here’s a step-by-step guide to brewing your own worm tea at home.
What you’ll need
- Urban Wyrm Worm Casts: High-quality worm castings for the best results.
- Container: A bucket, Watering Can or any large container (5 gallons is ideal).
Step-by-step instructions
-
Prepare your container
Fill your bucket, watering can or container with 4–5 gallons of water. Preferably rain water. -
Add the Worm Casts
Place 1–2 cups of Urban Wyrm’s worm casts into the water and leave this to sit. -
Oxygenate the tea (Optional)
For a more potent brew, mix the water regularly and leave it to sit. This process enhances microbial activity, creating a highly beneficial tea. -
Steep and brew
Let the mixture steep for 24–48 hours. Stir occasionally. During this time, beneficial microbes will populate the liquid, turning it into a rich, nutrient-filled potent Urban Wyrm tea. -
Use your worm tea
Worm tea is best used immediately after brewing to maximise its benefits. Use it as a foliar spray for leaves or pour it directly into the soil around your plants.
Tips for success
- Brew in shade: Keep your container out of direct sunlight while brewing to protect the microbes.
- Use quickly: Worm tea is most effective when fresh, so try to use it within 24 to 48 hours of brewing.
- Dilution: Worm tea is gentle, but you can dilute it with water (1:1 ratio) for more delicate plants.
Why use worm tea?
Worm tea provides plants with essential nutrients, beneficial microbes, and enzymes that improve soil structure and promote plant growth. It’s an eco-friendly alternative to chemical fertilisers, enhancing soil fertility naturally.
